The nightmares with showme, silver, black, gold, etc here on campus have put a very bad taste in my mouth. When asked, the excuse was that AIX is the most secure. The answer to that was perhaps, but not so much more secure that it warrants the nightmare when other nearly as secure and just better *nixes are available. Also lets not forget that we were indentured slaves to IBM at the time... Anyone remember the ATM fiasco? Entire labs being dead for days weeks at a time over and over, Inability to access showme, silver, gold, etc. Made all the old profs that we were beating off of Mizzou1 with a club think that they were right to stick with Mizzou1.... of course they didn't realize that we were the last BITmail holdouts on the planet and Chicago, our BIT hub was begging us to move on so they could retire the system all together.

semco in columbia runs (ran?) aix. i worked there years ago. they run

lotus domino clouded my vision, but i never saw anything special about
aix.

Please run Matlab on a supported Linux, Solaris,

I should add that the machine I was using is a 400+ CPU IBM SP
supercomputer running AIX. It was pretty amazing when it was purchased 6
years ago. Now it seems a bit slow though it has loads of memory and disk
space. It is soon to be replaced by a new IBM cluster that will run ...
you guessed it ... Linux!

Congratulations, Linux!
