Here is the output:
drwxr-xr-x  29 dan users 4096 Jan 28 22:46 /var/ftp/files

It just does not make since.  If both commands will work when I type 
them in at a BASH prompt as SU then I do not understand why they will 
not work when I put them in a script and run them via ./ as SU.
