reading over the log file that is what it seems. yea, manually running
*smbd -D* works and everything is ok.
but, changing /etc/selinux/config to "permissive" didn't work. i still
get the same error.
it also looks like things are missing or incorrect. if i run
*/etc/init.d/smb reload* it complains of a missing *smb.conf* even
though it is located at */etc/samba/smb.conf* and *testparam* comes
back successful?
