Read about it on Slashdot already.
I think that Torvalds is so revered among Linux users that even his comments (not meant for public consumption) are treated as gospel. I don't think this was a comment to be taken very seriously- it sure sounds like a rant to me.
I use Gnome because it seems much less clunky than KDE and my favorite apps (Firefox, the Gimp, Evolution) are GTK+ apps and look a WHOLE heck of a lot better in Gnome than in KDE. But KDE is certainly a good DE. I personally like to have the option of quite a few DEs.
