I used to live over in Sunrise Estates,
and they had both AT&EMAIL:PROTECTED and Capital Cable. I went ahead with AT&T
because they were the bigger player. I got good throughput and it was fairly
stable. I moved right before they got really terrible. I could kind of tell
they were getting bad. This was right before they became Mediacom. Just recently ADSL became available at my
current house, and I got the cheapest package. It’s okay. Better than
dial up. Problem is, it’s only 256K, which makes it barely fast enough
for any multimedia. And then you’re never really going to get the full
256K, because of different factors. One thing I have noticed, the line is
always resetting in the early morning. I called CenturyTel, and they insist
that I have a short in my house wiring somewhere. I am skeptical, but I’m
going to check it out when I have a chance. I really think they have something
funny going on in their DSLAM or wire. Shannon Spurling From:
EMAIL:PROTECTED [mailto:EMAIL:PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Roberts, Michael J. (IATS) I am in Vanderveen and we have CenturyTel
ADSL. We have the cheapest available package ($29.99/mo). I will
say you get what you pay for, but the service has been very stable. We
have only experienced one outage in the last year, and that was due to a major
fiber cut that took place a couple weeks ago. In Vanderveen, we have the option of
Mediacom or Charter. I had a Mediacom cable modem for a couple
months. There was nothing wrong with it, except the price. CenturyTel uses PPPoE, which is easy
enough to setup on a Linksys, DLink or Netgear router. I have mine setup
to always stay connected. You could probably get Socket DSL, but they may
still lease the physical plant for CenturyTel. There is nothing wrong
with this option, but it could complicate things when you troubleshoot. I
made a simple spreadsheet of all the available ISPs, speeds, prices, contract
lengths, etc. Once I had everything on paper, it was pretty easy to decide. -mike From:
