I'm confused -- when Clark Hall switched to Tigernet2 we moved MLUG and a machine for my department to the data center so they _would_ be accessible from outside. Some ports (like SMTP) are firewalled unless you make arrangements, but SSH shouldn't be a problem.

Autossh http://www.harding.motd.ca/autossh/ makes it pretty easy to connect to machines behind Tigernet2, if that's what you're asking.
