It may well depend on how the original app was developed.  You would
definitely have to recompile your app, at the very least.  Migration will
probably easier if the original used the approach of in-line code versus
code behind forms.

MS wanted to set some standards, which they couldn't do without making those
standards usable by others, even to build work alike platforms.  I say
"workalike" because Mono is not a .NET clone.  The mono team uses a 'clean
room' approach.
