Please help - I am frustrated. I am trying to get an X client running on a remote machine and connect to my X server I am staring at. No luck. I read about Xauth and found a couple of web pages. Nmap shows the local port 6000 closed. Ok, so somewhere I read that I need to edit /usr/X11R6/bin/startx to say

serverargs="-nolisten tcp"

to be more secure and keep 6000 closed. However, my startx file has the line

serverargs=""

in it. NONE THE LESS, with ps I get

/usr/X11R6/bin/X :0 -audit 0 -auth /var/gdm/:0.Xauth -nolisten tcp vt9

What is going on? From where is X called with those args? What file do I need to edit to remove the nolisten arg?

You can use netstat --inet -ln | grep 6000 to see if it's listening.
