One little piece of advice: don't log in as root unless you */really/* need to. Use sudo or open a root terminal to execute commands as root instead as then your whole system isn't running with root permissions. Linux isn't easy to hack into compared at least one other OS, but why take chances, especially if you're running an Apache server or something that has a "presence" online. I also wouldn't run as root because if you goof up something as a regular user, no biggie, the worst you'd have to do is make a new account and you've got a clean slate. As root, you might have to reinstall the whole OS again.

Just my $0.02.

Phillip

P.S. I just remembered that KDE 3.4 won't even let you log in as root unless you change the line that says "Allow root login" to "true" in the config file. It will by default pop up an error message that says that root login is not allowed.

Hi
Thanks a lot for the advice. Here's the info:
Release: 2005.1 (I'm not sure if that's written correctly)
Yes, logged in as root
I'm not running sudo.

Thanks Again
