A little off the post topic, but this is a remarkable web-util and I think you folks would enjoy. It allows you to use custom tunings which means that you can pull up your Dobro chords, and I can bring up closed hand bluegrass Mando chords.

This guy Eric is awesome and is continually improving these tools.

Here's a one stop place for musical software homes. It's the Piano Tuner's Guild homepage http://www.ptg.org/

Also.. for you mac users out there... I ran across a site when working on learning piano tuning/rebuilding/regulating/repair/maintenance. Some really great utilities... especially if you are doing aural & sight singing training (which is part of every school's music programs and usually a heartache.)

Not all of his software is on this site, and at the bottom are links to two other pages he's associated with that host his software.

Does anyone here use Tablature-mode.el in GNU emacs to write guitar tab?
It sounds like a good idea but the only one I found is from 1994 and it
says it became obsolete with emacs 19!

Or is there something else you'd recommend? (FOSS for Linx/UNIX,
preferably).

I've used Lilypond for guitar and dobro tab. It does very nice work.

That is a very nice project. It will produce high-quality printable sheet music. I can use that. The other thing I want is something that will make it easy to do this kind of thing:

e----------------------------0--0-0-0-0-0--0h1p0-0-
B----------------------------0--0-0-0-0-0-------3--
G----------------------------1--1-2-4-2-1----------
D----------------------------2--2-3-5-3-2----------
A------2-----2-0-3-2-0-------2--2-3-5-3-2----------
E--0-4---0-4-----------3-1-0-0--0-0-0-0-0----------

Probably emacs with xfretboard will do it for me.
