I don't recall it being that bad until 96-97... At that time you could
bet that around 4:30pm until 7:00pm, Showme would be unuseable. In
94-95, every one was still using Ricemail on Mizzou1. :-)
It wasn't until they forced every one off of Mizzou1 that I remember the
system having trouble.

showme crashed all the time the first year or so, as I recall.
Everyone would log in at once and run pine. The load average would go
nuts, then *bam* reboot, then people would start logging back in again
and the whole thing would start all over. I remember very clearly
this happening, at least at the start of the '94-95 academic year
which I believe was the first academic year that showme was in use.
