Ok, reading the issue on the nss_ldap problem - that seems to be 
EXACTLY what we've hit.  I've got a cron script which backs up the ldap 
files every night at like 3am, and does so by shutting down, restarting 
ldap - perhaps not the most efficient method, but it works and we're 
not a 24/7 shop.  SO, that sounds very much like what the problem we're 
facing is.  Hmm, looks like it's time to upgrade to RHAS release 4.
