Hi all.
A friend of mine just got SUSE 9.1 installed at your installfest the
other day (I was sick or I would've shown up). I've been trying to
help him get his COIN dialup account working. I'm using 884-0641 as
the dial-up number (works in windows).
The modem is an internal Dynex DX-M100 from Best Buy. It uses the
Intel 536ep chipset, and I believe I have installed appropriate
drivers from intel's website. Kinternet (pppd, etc...) seems to be
interacting properly with the modem - the critical part of the
Kinternet logs usually look something like:
pppd[0]: --> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.54.0
pppd[0]: --> Initializing modem.
pppd[0]: --> Sending: AT
... modem init string, dial string...
pppd[0]: --> Carrier detected. Waiting for prompt.
pppd[0]: CC
pppd[0]: Welcome to the Columbia Online Information Network!
... blah blah ...
pppd[0]: User Access Verification
pppd[0]: Username:
pppd[0]: --> Looks like a login prompt.
pppd[0]: --> Sending: (username)
pppd[0]: Password:
pppd[0]: --> Looks like a password prompt.
pppd[0]: --> Sending: (password)
pppd[0]: % Authorization failed.
pppd[0]: NO CARRIER
I am able to connect to this account, at this phone number, in
text-only mode using minicom. I have also experimented with KPPP, to
no avail.
Personally I run Ubuntu, which uses Gnome - and I've been on ethernet
for years now. So I'm kinda clueless about getting Coin PPP stuff
working in KDE nowadays.
If anyone knows how to make this work lemme know. Many thanks.
Cheers,
Raymond Myers
