Regarding Synergy...

...which I hadn't heard of until now (thanks!)...
Suppose I wanted to use one mouse, one keyboard and one monitor on two or
more machines. It sounds like synergy would somehow handle the mouse and
keyboard and clipboard, but it requires multiple monitors - maybe a
monitor switching device would work.
How does Synergy work? Is it using VNC inside?
It sounds very VNCish.
