George, when I was installing Vector Linux (Slack deriv.) on my old
laptop, I got lots of kernel panics with USB storage devices. I was
trying to install VL on an external 3GB USB 2.0 drive.
YMMV, but I was able to get rid of these problems by disabling ACPI at
the boot prompt.
