If you don't want to install grub into the mbr of the
primary hdd, I have found the easiest thing to do is
use Grub installer for windows
(http://www.geocities.com/lode_leroy/grubinstall/).
Extract this program in C:\boot and run
grubinstall.exe. Create your menu.lst (this could be
copied and pasted from your current one). Then edit
your boot.ini for windows by setting the timeout=10
and adding: C:\boot\stage1="GRUB".
(the easiest way to edit boot.ini is through the
control panel>system>startup and recovery
settings>edit startup files manually, click Edit )

When you start your computer NTLDR will give you a
menu. You will be able to boot Windows as normal or
choose grub to bring up the grub menu to boot linux.
The only problem with this program is when you defrag
your Windows hdd you need remember to rerun
grubinstall.exe for the grub menu to work the next
time you boot.

This is how my computer is set up and it works great.
