Using the same cable as before and plugged into a switch.  Not sure if
the link lights on the nic are on.  I know the lights on the switch are
on.

When I get that error, I usually have a cable unplugged.  If the cable
is between two nics, you need a crossover cable, right? are the link
LEDs lit?
