ok, here is a weird one...
i just did a fresh install of gentoo 2004.3 (kernel-2.6.10-gentoo-r6).
everything goes well. stage-1 install. everything emerged and compiled
fresh from the servers. i reboot, log in, create a standard user and add
sshd to the default start-up (ala rc-update). reboot, log in from my
desktop via putty and start working on the box remotely.
here is where the problem starts. i install apache2 and configure it.
after i add it to the default start-up (again, via rc-update; nothing
tricky here) i start it (/etc/init.d/apache2 start) without rebooting
and test it from a remote box. apache works fine. now, when i reboot the
new server, dhcp and networking fail to load on boot, the warning i get
during the boot up is dhcp failed, sshd failed and apache2 failed. if i
remove apache2 from the default start-up, it works again.
am i missing something new with apache2 and gentoo? i've searched their
forums and haven't found an exact match to my problem yet...
i am running a server at home which seems to work fine. why is apache2
breaking the network initialization at boot?
i alway follow the handbook, even though i've installed gentoo a dozen
times over the past year or so.
anyone else have this problem recently?
