Wow. That's a great write up. Espically interesting is the idea of
using 802.11+VoIP to set up lightweight, mobile PBXs. Now *there's* an
idea that could probably be packaged and sold to the construction
industry. In fact, I bet that people like GE who work on big commercial
projects, like my brother in law who installs power plant turbines,
would be really into a system like that.
Oddly, my experience with VoIP in my home office has been about the
opposite. The VoIP phone I've got through Vonage has consistently
provided me with less cost *and* better quality than my land line ever
did. Of course, this could be the really old and crappy copper in the
neighborhood. On occasion, there has been a burp, but that's been
cured, by and large, by rebooting the adapter.
Which providers were you using? I've noticed that not so many provide
service to 573, though with recent FCC ruling on SBC's planned VoIP
service that might change.
