I was using xorg not XF86 and the config file is xorg.config
ati-drivers is for the 2.4 kernel and uses the obsolete xorg 6.7 package
I found out the problem was that there are issues with compiling X / kde
+hardened and that is why I have been having issues. Appearantly there was a
patch published for X6.8.0r1 but not for the release I am using which is 6.8.0r4
- so I just had to recompile X -hardened and now it works. Problem semi-solved -
thanks
Chad
