Yup, it's just more places to keep track of. Whenever you run an
executable from the path, instead of explicitly providing the path, you
are placing trust in the OS to "do what you mean".
What might help with your desire for better organization would be some
kind of program to manage dropping symlinks into /usr/local/bin for you.
Wonder if anyone's done something like that already?
