OK, so there's this story about the wifi provider for parts of
downtown Columbia:

http://archive.columbiatribune.com/search/qfullhit.htw?CiWebHitsFile=%2F2004%2Fjun%2F20040629busi003%2Easp&CiRestriction=wifi&CiBeginHilite=%3Cstrong+class%3DHit%3E&CiEndHilite=%3C%2Fstrong%3E&CiUserParam3=/query.asp&CiHiliteType=Full

Dang, that's a long URL...

The company they mention (ILERO) doesn't seem to be called that (or
have a web presence). A search for "izones" gets you to:

http://www.wi-fihotspotlist.com/browse/us/2000264/2038935/

And that's at least three vendor names, plus the up and comer "Independent". :-)

More seriously, let us know who you end up with. Some of us live in
small enough neighborhoods with newly active neighborhood associations
to try and see if this is feasible for residences.
