i had archlinux running on my ibm thinkpad 600x (p3 500, 256mb ram, 
etc). i prefer the lightweight, build everything yourself distros. 
archlinux is tiny and has a great package base (as i've said on this 
list too many times...hehehe). everything seemed to work fine "out of 
the box" so to speak.
