You should be able to use your own map instead of using the real root
servers I suppose as long as you aren't trying to manage a lot of
domains. Care to share what you ended up doing?

I've been toying with my own TLD for my own network traffic. I'm trying
to make it so that only *.bbs addresses work until the user logs into
the BBS system. Then they are authenticated and can access either
internal or external sites. That way when people connect by wireless to
my network by accident they'll get my BBS logon screen even if they
didn't know it existed before-hand. Once logged in I want them to be
able to use the BBS but also to be able to use the Internet. I might
kill everything except email and web traffic though.. and force the web
traffic through a proxy. Just more fun with BIND and various other Linux
stuff.
