I know someone who traded trash pickup service for network service with
a neighbor.  It works quite well for them.  And both benefit.

Expanding on this just a little bit, unless your net usage consists of
just a little noodling around, I don't think you'll find your
Pringles-assisted network will meet your needs.

But what probably work well would be if you could strike a deal with a
buddy/neighbor who has good line of sight with you, and then both of you
set up yagis and point them at each other. That would be pretty
reliable, and would have enough bandwidth to be usable. And would split
both of your costs, for a very modest hardware investment.
