Another issue I have seen is when the email client is configured to use 
more connections than Postfix can provide.  For example, Thunderbird 
uses 5 connections by default but I believe Postfix is often configured 
to offer less.  When this is the case, Thunderbird has a tendency to 
time out often if you're doing a lot (i.e. checking multiple accounts 
simultaneously on the same server).
