It's a Wiki. Get it going and other people will keep it going if you
made it interesting enough to begin with. ;) In some way this sort of
thing is an interesting thing.. it reminds me of the Drummers in the
book The Diamond Age. Insert someone to bootstrap the process and the
whole community becomes something of an extension to that person's mind.
Each individual donates their own insights and perspectives but
ordinarily they revolve around one (or sometimes a few) key person. It's
similar to opensource but it's extended to any topic that can be
expressed as text w/ linked images and such.
I'm thinking of making a Wiki for travelers. At first being primarily
text based but I'm considering writing my own video Wiki software to
allow people to submit video and images and edit them into a video feed
(that can of course be re-edited by other users). It'd be PBS as
developed by the community. I'll probably start with the Las Vegas area
and then spread out to other areas I travel. I want to collect lots of
images and videos and put them on the site (linked into the pages). I
was going to submit my stuff to Wikipedia but I think I'd rather use my
own servers as I know I can provide the needed hdd space and bandwidth
whereas I'm unsure how they could handle the load. Besides additional
references are always good. People could always copy my stuff back into
Wikipedia if they felt it was useful. :)
