I believe that it is possible in some e-mail delivery systems to allow
users to create an unlimited number of addresses that deliver to their
account. The kind of system I have seen is where the user has a an
address such as EMAIL:PROTECTED but they are allowed to augment that
address by adding things after the plus sign. For example, the user could
use EMAIL:PROTECTED when signing up for messages from abc.com. When
the e-mail comes in, the recipient is understood to be lsjones and the
message is delivered to the appropriate account. The user can configure
their account to handle messages based on what follows the + sign. For
example, all messages sent to lsjones+abc could be put in the abc inbox.
Does anyone know how this can be accomplished in a Linux system? Have any
of you used it and is it recommended? Finally, are spammers hip to the
plus sign trick and do they strip everything that follows the plus sign
before sending their spam?
Thanks!
Mike
