Thought I'd ask if anyone else was doing palm development. I've been looking at it, and had some random notes/questions.

First, doing development in C is ok, but kinda annoying as it's VERY event driven through callbacks - not the most fun to write, but definitely doable (and I'll probably end up using it). Anyone have any suggestions on a good book for this? I've found the O'Reilly book and another here:

Any other comments/suggestions on doing such a system? Specifically, looking to do a simple app to track some basic information. There's two things - an app to track gas usage, MPG stats, etc. and another app to keep track of my book/dvd library so I don't buy duplicates (It has happened).

Second, I've looked at doing this in java, and as usual, find myself VERY annoyed with the Sun documentation. Do they really have to make EVERYTHING so damned complex? Their stuff drives me through the roof. Thankfully, the J2SE which is the "standard edition" and lets you write windowing based applications or other standalone apps, is pretty well documented and easy to write for. However, looking through the J2ME is INSANE. There's no clear definition of how to write an app for Palm devices, what libraries to use, etc. etc. etc. HELP! NOW, keep in mind, I've looked at superwaba. It works pretty well, but the implementation is almost as ugly, and the docs aren't the greatest either. Further, a lot of the class files seem to conflict with each other, it's hard to figure out what their intending with some of the libraries, and numerous other issues. SO, I'd rather do something simpler.

Usually I've found Java to be MUCH easier to write windows based apps in. Particularly since they work on both windows and linux and OS X :) However, looks like for Palm development C is actually easier to write your apps in.
Anyways, I'm definitely open to comments/suggestions/etc.
Thanks!
Jason
