I have had a IBM PS2 386 with 16M of ram running Slackware 7.x. There was
actually something about that machine that I really liked. It seemed very
solid... ...physically. I think that I could have thrown it out a fourth
story window without harming it significantly.

I currently have a 486 with 32M of ram that my parents use regularly for
e-mail and some light web browsing. It is running a very minimal
installation of Debian, but it does have X, Ice Window Manager, and Netscape
4. What actually slows this machine down the most is their crappy dial-up
service and backwoods phone lines.
