- ssh is very well fine when transfering files but is worth onlyfor one
time transfer, say you are updating your website one would like to see
how it looks like or if its working for every few minutes, now though
you can do this using ssh, its hassle if you want to work with some X
program, say like Quanta.
If we got a vpn connection to mu, start it when system boots, mount your
folder(s) automatically using samba with entries in /etc/fstab, you can
just work and update things using local machine.
- Other reason I like vpn is DNS, for some reason my linux box doesn't
get immediate response from my DNS when a request is asked (may be
router problem), its kind of slow and irritating. When I connect to MU
network, I can use mu dns servers and its a flow
- When using Kmail, if not on mu network, smtp requires authentication
and sometimes even fails and again a simple vpn connection does it all.
- I also mount folders from my office computer which definitely needs a
vpn connection.
- And accessing sites, mu resources, only.missouri.edu, sam, etc.,
should not be a mess.
I am definitely sure other people have various other uses with vpn for
their work getting done.
