Somehow recently I stumbled across an article about Ximian desktop on
Suse 9. Being the type that can NEVER leave well enough alone I
downloaded it, and downloaded it, it took about 5 tries but I finally
got the bright idea to login to gnome and install. Works like a charm
so far. When I first tried to install from KDE though it messed with
everything and caused my cups not to work right.
Also yesterday I had to do some government paperwork for Oregon DOT
(department of transportation, strikes fear in the hearts of truckers
everywhere) I had gotten a password from them months ago so I thought I
could fill out the forms online on the state DOT website. Turns out
that they had just gotten that part of website going and I was numero
uno guinea pig. It didn't work, I thought something was wrong with my
account. They fixed that part, we went into what browser I was using
(Konqueror) threw them for a loop, didn't even want to discuss linux. I
went over to hubbys machine that was running xp @ the time and finally
got to the website on IE. I have a spyware program but I forget to run
it for him and that machine is forever getting spyware so it kept going
to some weird address, got to lecture a little on the evils of
microsoft. Anyway website form didn't work there either, I had enabled
error messages because of problems with viewing wallyworlds website :)
so I emailed her the error messages and copies of the pages. They
called back and finally it was fixed. They were very happy that I
helped and was LOTS more fun that filling out paperwork. I asked them
if they wanted me to try it on any more linux distros or os x but didn't
get an answer. Just had to toot my own horn. (again) wouldn't know as
much as I do if not for you all.
