I saw on Slashdot that SCO are complaining about this. One has to wonder how
many big companies they can try to sue at once....

In terms of GPL-licensing Solaris, that'd surprise me too. Sun DID just LGPL
some of their Java Desktop libraries/management code. On the other hand, the
Java Desktop System has one of the largest, least comprehensible license
agreements that I've ever seen. It makes MS EULAs look like plain English!
Sun are also still huffing and puffing about whether or not to Open Source
Java, and in what form. I suspect that all of this is indicative of an
internal battle within Sun; Sun's been known for internal conflicts between
the development and the hardware groups for a while - I suspect that this
is spreading into a license battle, too.
Still, Sun have a LOT of cash to burn, so they can make a loss while they
make up their mind without risking vanishing completely...
