i've said it before here, i think, but i'm a big archlinux fan
(http://archlinux.org/). it's small, easy to install and has ton's of
freedom. you can set up a basic server in under 45 minutes.
the package list is pretty up-to-date, but arch does fail a bit in the
support arena. you can find some good information in their forums, but
getting an answer to a question could take a while.
