Hi, Gabe. If you haven't tried it yet, and you're game to try one more
distro, I'd recommend MEPIS (www.meis.org), which is based on Debian
testing. It's a CD-based distro, but it has a nice basic installer, too.

You could also just look through their suggestions, as they seem to be
applicable to other distros.

I've got MEPIS running on a tired old Toshiba notebook, and everything
is working (even the winmodem, and my cheapo generic cardbus NIC).
