I didn't care for emachines either, one day 'beast" (generic sis
computer, made in Florida by Jose, I don't think that's his real name)
here decided she wasn't going to boot and we had 6 trucks running and
needed 2 computers, one for email and one for someone doing the
recordkeeping. Lady at Wallyworld recommended the emachine over HP
because of processor and I can't say that one is more cheaply made than
the other, video on HP is better but had a sleezo processor. I have
always disliked Dell for some reason, seemed "thin" or something. When
I went into the new computer buying frenzy I got credit from dell on my
own but I have'nt bought one, told myself that if I got credit I was
buying a monster. Of course I could have gotten anything from best buy
including a sony or medion but considering our slightly used sony vaio
laptop lasted maybe 6 months I don't have much faith in them either.

I considered building my own, especially with your alls help :D, but
just don't have time right now. I'm thinking it's not such a big deal
from what I have read if you buy right stuff in the first place. I have
suze 9 sitting here STILL not installed because I told myself I wasn't
messing with it until absolutely necessary taxes were done.

I bought a bunch of non working or semi working thinkpads and made
laptops for the family in a couple late night sessions so I don't see
how a nice shiny new box with instructions for each part could be harder
than taking junk and making something productive. Although I must admit
one just needed to warm up and it was fine.

So is it harder to build a new machine or fix an older one??? Remember
I'm just a lowly housewife with a couple years of non tech college.
