You know - I've decided that I am not going to build my next computer. I've
never *not* built my own - save my first machine, which was bought used.
I don't have the time or energy to mess with a computer not working - I need
my computers to work just as much as a business needs it's mail server or
firewall to work.
As such - I will probably buy Dell PowerEdge servers from now on and just
add one every few years. I've seriously contemplated buying a shorty rack
and going entirely rackmount - with real network gear (something with a
decent backplane in it for god's sake), in-rack battery backups, cable
management, KVM switch for console, etc. I don't mind paying for these
servers - despite the high cost. But I will argue never having to tweak and
fix crap will save me time in the long run - which saves me money in the
same long run.
Put the rack in the closet and have a very sleek, minimalist desktop - with
a huge flippin flat panel display :) My only wish at that point for this
setup would be a real T1 to the house - but I can't justify $500+ month for
that :)

I don't care for eMachines or Gateway either one so I don't really care.
Why buy a cheesy off the shelf box when you can make your own custom box
for about the same cost?
