Exactly right. I used Opera with it ID'ing as MSIE, and it worked just fine, JavasCrap and all. Mozilla/NS must not be as believable a liar as Opera is...
People who code like this should be shot. There is no excuse for this, and it reflects a deep set belief that work is an unneccessary evil that they can somehow avoid.
