I complained to the BBC this morning - I have a right to given I pay 120
GBP a year for the their service here in Scotland :)
One big difference about the BBC and most other news organisations is
that they do generally take complaints from the public seriously and
will respond. I've had several articles on the BBC website corrected in
the past. I received a reasonable reply (that referenced Slashdot) from
the Business Editor of BBCi.
The problem here is that it was in fact an opinion article was written
by a columnist. For those that follow North American business events via
the BBC website, this would probably have been obvious, as the reporter
in question writes a weekly column. For the rest of us it looked like
propaganda on a news site that's supposed to be impartial.
I think the BBC needs to make opinion more distinct from news - it's
easier in a newspaper, news is generally at the front and then you get
to the opinion section where the columnists write. That's more difficult
on the web where folk follow links and make their own route through the
site.
I still think the article was ill judged, but I'm also willing to accept
that there is a place for opinion pieces within news sites.
Russell.
