Congrats on your upcoming defense! I'm writing mine and plan to defend
this spring.
Re. distros--being in a similar boat about redhat, I got the SuSE ftp
install a couple weeks ago (free). Aside from a pokey ftp server, it
went great, and it seems to be an improvement over RH in many ways (like
sound support). I installed it in some spare hd space and have been
booting to it, getting things configured gradually when I have time. I
figure I'll just move it up when the time is right.
Re. OS X/Mac: I got a powerbook last fall and think it's great. Main
drawback is that M$Orifice seems to be the only viable choice on Mac (I
know there's OpenOffice, but it's kinda clumsy and slow). I'd love to
hear there's something else...
Cheers,
Dave
