If you have Cygwin w/ XWindow installed it should be as easy as
configuring xdm, gdm, or kdm (I use gdm) on your server to accept
connections (like change one line in the config file) and open the ports
to your LAN. Then the command bellow should connect you to like gdm
such that it looks almost exactly like you're logging in locally to th
server.
This is not encrypted though and lacks specialized caching and so forth
that VNC might offer so it may have downsides to consider also. I think
XWindow on Windows is slower than on Linux too which you may notice if
you don't have a fast system.
