I would like to add that we should not be embarrassed at all if miss
something that looks obvious in retrospect. There are several hundred
linux/unix programs that do all sorts of specialized things and it takes a
really long time to learn how to use them. We need to encourage newbies
to ask more questions. If we have newbies, we aren't hearing enough from
them, possibly because too much of our discussion is fairly high level.

Note that many of the people writing to this list are computer and network
*professionals*, not just expert users. Some of the people on this list,
like me, who aren't at that level, have been using linux/unix daily for a
decade or more. But this list is at least as much for use by people who
know *nothing* about linux/unix. I don't want them to think that a
question about nslookup or whois is too simple for our list. Nothing is
too simple. We really should have more basic questions here.

So I agree with Stephen.
