Robert,
I ran across something that may be of use to you if your problem isn't
fixed: running mandrake update tonight, the following package was
retrieved:
<Name: popt
<Version: 1.8-22.1.92mdk
<Size: 53 KB
<Importance: bugfix
<Summary: A C library for parsing command line parameters
<Reason for update: A bug was found in the way that rpm
<locks it's database in that it prevents update-menus from
<running properly and can cause the loss of KDE, GNOME,
<and other WM menus.
You'll probably want to run the updater a couple times to make sure
you've got everything, and make sure you force the "update media" option
by running Software Media Manager first each time.
Re. Switchdesk, it's RedHat, I don't think mandrake has it--I've no idea
how to switch in mandrake. A RH rpm would probably work, but not
necessarily.
Hope this helps,
Dave
