Up until last night, I was running Familiar Linux on my Ipaq 3850. I
finally decided to revert to Pocket PC 2002 because it's desktop sync
capabilities are much more complete. Linux on the Ipaq was fun though -
WiFi sniffing worked a lot better under it with my Prism-based Linksys
WCF11. The media player under Opie supported a lot more media types too.
Installation of Familiar isn't too hard, getting Pocket PC 2002 back was
a little tricky but at least I managed to do both without turning my
Ipaq into an Ibrick.
If you can find one cheap (not too hard - usually around $35-50 on eBay)
you might try an Ipaq 3150. They're monochrome, but they can run Linux
and might be fun to play with just to get the idea of things. Compared
to a 3850 at around $250-300 eBay, not too bad of a deal at all...and
quite usable in my opinion. Who can't get by with monochrome for
day-to-day PDA stuff anyway?
