Because it is so entertaining to watch all that text scroll by... :D,
yeah, there are precompiled packages available so if you want you can
use those, but the point is to have a system that is completely tuned to
your setup. Now if it makes much different, I don't think so. But
their package management system makes it pretty easy to stay up-to-date
on all your software and also if you want you can be on the "unstable
bleeding edge" of the software.
