Maybe an issue with support contracts, but either Debian or Gentoo will
save you from the pain of a future all-at-once full-blown version number
upgrade. Constant incremental upgrades via apt or portage keep things
up-to-date and running well. Gentoo is probably a bigger up-front time
investment, and I'm not sure how wise it is to be compiling updates with
a heavily-loaded production machine, but there is a binary package option.
