There is an FTP downloadable version of SuSE... download the boot iso
from ftp.suse.com:/pub/suse/i386/8.2 (I'm not sure if they have an 9.0
since it's "commercial".) The trend for SuSE was/is to make free the
last major version but they should have a live-eval version that you
might be able to get to install on your HDD.
