I posted this about a year ago, but didn't really get the responses I
was looking for, so I'll try again :)

I am a partner in a tech- and computing-oriented website that is
starting to really get off the ground. We've got a lot of bandwidth,
hosting bills are paid for the next 2 years, and the site runs off a
professionaly-written content management system. We're basically an
empty shell at this point - we've floated a few test articles (one of
mine was even slashdotted) but have yet to really start in earnest.

We have no advertising (as of yet) so we're pretty much doing this for
the hobby of it - that, and any hardware given to us for review. My
partner has visited COMDEX 2 years in a row, and has made some good
contacts, so we've got a number of companies that should be able to get
us product for review.

One thing we really need at this point is another writer. Day-to-day
tech news is hard to keep up with for us, and it'd be really nice to
have someone that we could count on to sign up for all the press release
mailing lists, hunt down other news, and make several postings a day.
We plan to do a feature article every couple of weeks, and can pretty
much handle that ourselves, but if the new person has some ideas we're
pretty open to letting them run with it. Hardware reviews are also a
significant responsibility. The good part is, you get to keep the
hardware most of the time!

With that being said, I'm looking for a qualified person to fill this
position. If you wrote to me the last time, feel free to toss your hat
into the ring again. Here are the qualifications we're looking for:

- No computer geek egos...I don't care how much you know. Your job
isn't going to be to impress people with your m4d sk1llz, rather you
should be able to communicate easily and make the readers comfortable.

- A good knowledge of technology and computing. We don't want the guy
that calls Gateway tech support because their "Bobo the Pocket Monkey"
screensaver won't start up.

- An understanding of experimental design, mainly for use in reviews.
This was in your 8th grade science curriculum...you really ought to
understand independent variables, controls, and how to make good looking
bar graphs.

- And finally, good writing skills. I would think that this goes
without saying, but you should have seen some of the responses I got
last time. You don't have to be Hemmingway (lord knows I'm not) - just
have some reasonably good spelling and grammar, along with a good sense
of where you're going with whatever your're writing.

So if you're interested, email me off-list. This position would be
GREAT for the person who is looking to start their own site, but just
hasn't made it happen for whatever reason. We've already done the hard
part in getting the infrastructure put up, and we'll likely give
whomever gets the job pretty free rein.

If you sound like a good candidate, I will probably ask you for a sample
of your writing, so you should probably be prepared for that. If you
can send a sample along with your email, that'd be even better.

If you want a look at the site (like I said, no real content yet but the
layout is final), check it out here: http://www.fastsilicon.com

While I'm at it, might as well pimp my blog:
