Ok; A friend of mine who is a newbie was installing redhat 9 on his office
machine while chatting with me. I could able to manage to tell him
instructions on phone for installation and he got it done well.
Now, according to him, his machine got a static ip and I asked him to write
down the ip, mask, dns, gateway from the existing windows (dual boot) on that
and in linux using network configuration utility I asked him to enter those
values in. Also, added lines
<ipaddress> <hostname> in /etc/hosts.
eth0 was active, also /sbin/ifconfig shows up nicely, /sbin/ifup eth0 doesnt
give any erros. But he could not able to access internet. I could not figure
out what should I ask him to do without looking or knowing whats going on. He
stays in carbondale, so I cant go.
Could anyone have any ideas of getting through this.
