> Thank you all for your help. I finally have my Linux machine (RH 9.0) up and running. I cannot yet conclude as to why I was having problems, but I am leaning towards what MK suggested.....overheating and autoshutdown-BIOS. And, yes, I excluded all tetex related packages while installing, just in case..;-). I first perfomed a minimal install(personal desktop installation) and then added additional packages after making sure I gave the machine enough time to "cool down".

I did struggle too...tried Roaring Penguin's GUI (rp-pppoe-gui) to configure ....It didnt work. I went back to using the command-line configuration tool....worked like a charm.
You might want to stress test the machine and see if it overheats and
shuts down (before doing anything important on it). I might suggest
something that heats up your drives as a similar test. Possibly doing
something like copying the contents of a cd to hdd or something like
that. If it is overheating it's a good idea to add a fan or two. I
suggest a slot fan and a fan directly on your drives.. as this was going
down when heavily using your drives.
